As the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, SGS is pleased to announce that it is playing a major coordinating role in one of the biggest road building projects in the recent history of Senegal. The entire project comprises 120km of bitumen roads, 65km of tracks and 16km of urban works. The project goal is to improve the road network, with great emphasis lying on further regional integration of the trade routes of the North and West African Road Ring.
Due to the fact that projects of such dimension require professional assistance and expertise by an independent third party, AGEROUTE, the company responsible for the implementation of construction, maintenance and rehabilitation of road networks in Senegal under the authority of the government body D.D.I. (Direction de la Dette et de l’Investissement), has awarded SGS Industrial Services the contract to provide Project Management Services.
SGS Industrial Services is very pleased to be playing such a major role in this project, with the emphasis on service delivery with respect to the overall management of construction, the approval of relevant documentation, the monitoring of schedules and overall performance and the monitoring of hygiene and health and safety. Moreover, SGS will be providing auditing and quality control of materials as well as administrative and financial monitoring of the project.
The SGS Industrial Services is uniquely positioned to offer the services required for overseeing development works as its global footprint is huge and its ability to gather high calibre experts is second to none. AGEROUTE has chosen SGS because of its organizational ability, its hold on the logistics required, and its readiness for work from day one. Furthermore, SGS has decided to open a competency center in Dakar, where the new business development manager, Alain Miquel, will spearhead the growth of SGS in Western Africa and support the Geneva-based Project Management Services team in managing the tender process and in ensuring Project Coordination.
