One of the largest solar parks in Europe is currently in the planning and approval phase in Brandenburg.
Berlin firm Parabel AG, the sole shareholder in the company in charge of the project, has been commissioned to develop the solar park. The facility will be located on the site of a former military training ground. When the final construction stage is complete, it will have an output of around 90 MW.
The first construction stage is expected to last from June to August 2011, and this part of the facility will generate 41 MW. Marienfliess municipality, which is responsible for land-use planning in the area, is very positive about the venture and is offering the process its full support. In allowing the solar park to be constructed in Jännersdorf, the municipality is acting in line with the State of Brandenburg’s energy strategy, which aims to protect the climate by increasing the proportion of renewable energy in the state to 20 percent of its primary energy use by 2020.
The approval process should conclude in May 2011. “Using conversion areas for photovoltaic facilities is a sensible and attractive option from both an ecological and an economic point of view,” says Jürgen Will, Managing Director of Parabel AG. “We are currently conducting an investor selection process and we invite all investors with an interest in the project to contact us by the end of February. A detailed project description with more technical and economic information is available from Parabel AG. Our contact details are listed below.”
With Parabel AG, the municipality has found an experienced partner. In 2010, the company installed rooftop solar panels capable of generating around 10 MW and four open-field solar parks in Germany and the Czech Republic with a capacity of over 19 MWp.
