Skanska to Develop Phase II of Vastermalms Strand Housing Project in Stockholm

Skanska is to develop the second phase of the Västermalms Strand housing project on Kungsholmen in Stockholm, in a joint-venture company with Index Estate.

The investment will be implemented by Skanska Sweden and amount to approximately SEK 90 M and Skanska Sweden’s construction assignment will total approximately SEK 420 M, which will be recognized in the first quarter.

The second phase, the Jublet block, comprises 240 tenant-owned apartments in the most attractive seaside location at the quayside in western Kungsholmen. The objective is for the housing units to be certified in accordance with the international environmental system LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). The first phase in the neighboring block, Välbehaget, was the first in Sweden to apply for this certification for housing.

The units will have a high environmental profile, with very low energy consumption, close to the limits that apply for passive buildings. The construction technology is based on green solutions developed by Skanska for the Blå Jungfru passive house project and for the first phase of Västermalms Strand.

“The first phase of Västermalms Strand has sold very well and interest in the green profile has been high. We are now moving on with the next phase and developing the environmental profile further,” says Ola Jansson, Business Developer at Skanska.

Approximately 65 percent of the apartments have already been sold and the first tenants are scheduled to move in by year-end 2012.
