Kingspan Insulated Panels North America, a global manufacturer of insulated metal panels, announces the availability of its new Path to NetZero™ mobile app.
Introduced at Greenbuild 2010, this unique tool for the building industry simulates the process of achieving high-performance and net-zero buildings.
"The new app instructs users to select one of four cities, a building type (school, office, or warehouse) and a baseline building designed to ASHRAE 90.1.2004," explained Paul Bertram, Jr., FCI, CDT, LEED AP, director, environment and sustainability at Kingspan Insulated Panels North America. "Users then choose a Kingspan insulated roof and wall system and compare savings. Benchmarks for the tool are aligned with the Department of Energy Commercial Building Initiative and U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) 2009/3.0 requirements."
Designed for iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and Android mobile devices, the free app is also available at www.pathtonetzero.com. The iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch apps are currently available, with the Android app launching end of February. Visitors to the microsite can find exclusive information on net-zero energy building and request an energy analysis of their buildings.
The Path to NetZero is based on an EnvelopeFirst study commissioned by Kingspan and conducted by the Architectural Energy Corporation. The study, which simulated three buildings in four locations, indicated that continuous insulation with high effective R-value and superior airtightness achieved significant energy savings, followed by renewables such as photovoltaics (PVs).
