MoDOT Chooses Parsons for Bridge Replacement Project

Parsons has been selected by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) to provide final design services to replace the 2,300-ft-long Hurricane Deck Bridge over the Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri.

The current structure carries State Route 5 and consists of 463-foot steel deck truss spans supported on caissons in water up to 85 feet deep.

MoDOT chose Parsons for proposing an innovative approach to construction that involves the use of temporary pier widening and shifting the existing superstructure over. This method will allow traffic to be maintained on the existing bridge while the new bridge is constructed, potentially resulting in significant cost savings.

"Parsons is pleased to continue our long-standing relationship with the Missouri Department of Transportation on this important bridge replacement project," said Tom Barron, Parsons Group President.

Once completed, the new Hurricane Deck Bridge will accommodate one driving lane in each direction with shoulders. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2012.
