John Holland has been awarded the Stage Two Contract for the design and construction of the new Albany Health Campus in Western Australia. The contract is valued at approximately $152 million.
The new 21,000 square metre facility will be built over four levels, including a new Emergency Department, Inpatient and Community Mental Health Units, Cancer Centre, Surgical and Medical Inpatient Units, Pathology and Clinical Support areas. Over the past six months, John Holland has developed the master plan and schematic design of the new campus as part of the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) contract.
John Holland’s Group Managing Director, Glenn Palin, said: “This award follows the delivery of early contractor involvement works and reflects our skills and recent success in major health projects in Western Australia.”
General Manager of John Holland’s Western Region, Adam Harry, said: “The project has progressed smoothly through the ECI phase, reflecting the strength of our collaborative approach with all project stakeholders. We look forward to continuing to work closely with the Government of Western Australia, the WA Country Health Service along with the hospital’s user groups to deliver an outstanding facility for the region.”
He continued, “Our business in Western Australia continues to grow and this most recent award reflects our skills and success in the delivery of major public infrastructure for the State.”
The Albany Health Campus will become the hub for health services in Western Australia’s Great Southern region, significantly increasing the capacity of existing services. The new facility will be constructed on the existing hospital site in Albany, with the facility to remain in operation throughout construction before being demolished upon completion.
Construction will commence early in 2011 with completion expected late in 2012.
