Astronergy Starts Solar Module Manufacturing Plant Construction in China

On November 10, Astronergy, in collaboration with its corporate parent, the Chint Group, began construction in Jiuquan, Gansu Province on a solar module manufacturing facility that will produce 200 MW of Astronergy a-Si/uc-Si high-efficiency thin film modules.

The project is located to the east of Jiuquan City, historically one of the more important cities along the Silk Road.  With developed and reliable infrastructure and comprehensive municipal facilities, it is in a good position to begin the development of its solar industry.

Exploring possibilities in Western China is a part of the Chint Group's strategic development plan. In October of this year, Chint Group founder Mr. Nan Cunhui led an official company visit to Gansu where he signed "A Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement for the Solar Industry" with Gansu's Development and Reform Commission.  According to the agreement, Astronergy will setup 1,000 MW in grid-connected PV projects before 2020 with the full support of the Chint Group.  In addition, the companies have agreed to invest in and establish 200 MW of PV cell and module production before 2015. The 200 MW of a-Si/uc-Si high-efficiency thin film production line represents only one of the many ways that the Chint Group plans to collaborate with Gansu Province.

Chint Group Vice President, Mr. Chen Jianke, said during his speech that the 200 MW thin film production project, covering 200 acres and requiring a total investment of RMB 2.9 billion, will generate RMB 20 billion in annual sales once up and running.
