Thiess Receives Water Reclamation Plant Upgrade Project in South East Queensland

Queensland Urban Utilities has awarded Thiess Pty Ltd a $105 million contract to upgrade the Goodna Water Reclamation Plant in Ipswich, South East Queensland.

Thiess Managing Director David Saxelby welcomed the deal, the second project with Queensland Urban Utilities.

“The contract is another opportunity for Thiess to cement its position as a major builder of water and wastewater infrastructure,” Mr Saxelby said.

Queensland Urban Utilities CEO Noel Faulkner said the water reclamation plant upgrade was part of a record $268.9 million capital works program for 2010-11 and essential in helping meet the demands of a growing population.

“We look forward to working with Thiess to improve the capacity and reliability of our water and sewerage network,” Mr Faulkner said.

The upgraded plant will have a capacity to treat nearly 20 megalitres of wastewater per day compared to the current 13 megalitres of wastewater per day.

The plant’s upgraded treatment processes will also deliver a higher quality of reclaimed water back to the environment.

Construction is set to begin in October 2010 and expected to finish in late 2012.
