Turner Construction Company, the nation's leading general builder, has been awarded a $69 million contract by North Bethesda Center Office One, LLC to provide pre-construction and general contracting services for a 14-story office building in North Bethesda, Md. to accommodate 1,300 Federal Government employees.
The 649,000 sq. ft. building is part of North Bethesda Center, a 32-acre mixed-use development. Upon completion in July 2012, the project will seek a LEED Silver certification from the United States Green Building Council.
Green features of the project include public transportation access, allotted parking for low-emitting and fuel-efficient vehicles, vegetated roofs, a construction waste management plan for the recycling of 75 percent of the construction waste and the use of regional materials with low-VOC and high recycled content. These energy-efficient construction methods will provide an improved work environment for the building's occupants and reduce the use of natural resources.
"We look forward to working with North Bethesda Center Office One, LLC and continuing our relationship with managing partner LCOR, Inc. by managing the construction of this important energy-efficient facility for the benefit of the tenants and all who enter the office building," said Chris Jahrling, vice president and general manager of Turner's Washington, D.C. office.
