The IALD is pleased and honored to announce design expert Paola Antonelli, Senior Curator of Architecture and Design at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York, NY, USA, as the 2010 IALD Enlighten Americas keynote speaker.
Named one of the 25 most incisive design visionaries by TIME magazine, Antonelli will kick off this year's highly anticipated conference and set the tone with an inspiring, design-focused keynote address during the Welcome and Opening General Session on Friday, 8 October.
This year, IALD Enlighten Americas focuses on the most important attribute an architectural lighting designer brings to a project, the built environment and the end user : DESIGN. How does design define what we do individually and culturally? How do we create the best new designs, meet the needs of our clients and provide sustainable and efficient solutions? Where can we turn for inspiration?
Paola Antonelli is one of the world's leading design experts and was recently rated as one of the top one hundred most powerful people in the world of art by Art Review. Her goal is to insistently promote design's understanding, until its positive influence on the world is fully acknowledged and exploited.
Ms. Antonelli joined the MOMA in 1994 and has lectured worldwide in settings ranging from peer conferences to global interdisciplinary gatherings such as the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. She has also served on several international architecture and design juries.
The recipient of a Master's degree in Architecture from the Polytechnic of Milan, Italy, she is a Senior Fellow with the Royal College of Art, London, UK, and received an Honorary Doctorate in Design from Kingston University, London, and from the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA, USA.
