DOE Purchases iGo’s Energy-Efficient Products for New Office Building

iGo (Nasdaq: IGOI), a leading provider of smart, energy-efficient power management solutions, announced today that the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) purchased more than 800 units of the iGo Power Smart Tower with iGo Green Technology for the DOE’s new Research Support Facility (RSF).

The RSF is among the world’s most energy efficient office buildings and NREL plans to incorporate the energy efficient iGo surge protectors in offices throughout the new facility.

“As we aimed for a net-zero-energy building and a LEED Platinum rating, we realized that every watt of energy counts. From major initiatives to smaller steps, such as incorporating energy efficient surge protectors like iGo’s into our offices, NREL encourages consumers and businesses alike to do what they can to be more energy efficient,” said Craig Robben, Information Technology Project Manager for NREL.

The smart, energy-efficient iGo Green Technology products automatically detect when a device is not in use and shuts off power drawn from the wall, eliminating wasted standby power–also known as vampire power—by up to 85 percent. The iGo Power Smart Tower features four outlets with iGo Green Technology to reduce vampire power and four “always on” outlets for devices requiring continuous power.

“iGo is proud to be an integral part of the Department of Energy’s new Research Support Facility, helping it become one of the most energy efficient office buildings in the U.S.,” said Walter Thornton, VP, Product Management and Supply Chain of iGo. “Our goal is to help reduce vampire power in every home and office. Every little bit counts when saving money and helping protect the environment.”
