The United States General Services Administration (GSA) recently selected Beck to provide design-build architect-of-record and construction services for the Partial Modernization High Performing Green Building (HPGB) renovation of the Wayne Aspinall Federal Building in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Working with design architect, WRL Architects, Beck will be working on upgrades to the HVAC system, security system, lobby and other various interior renovations to the Grand Junction building. Originally built in 1939 and designed by renowned architect James Wetmore, the project is pursuing a minimum Silver certification level by the United States Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system. This project marks the fourth renovation of a Wetmore building undertaken by WRL.
Upon completion, the Wayne Aspinall building will be a Net Zero energy building, meaning it creates as much energy as it consumes and contributes no carbon emissions to the environment. In the United States, zero energy buildings or Net Zero buildings are defined as, “The amount of energy provided by on-site renewable energy sources is equal to the amount of energy used by the building. In the United States, 'zero energy building' generally refers to this type of building.”
Upon completion, the Wayne Aspinall federal building will among the first zero energy federal buildings.
