Hong Kong Chubb Awarded Fire Installation Contract from Cathay Pacific

Hong Kong Chubb Fire Safety has been awarded a $23.4 million contract from Cathay Pacific Services Limited for the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of an integrated fire system at the Chek Lap Kok Airport.

The project is one of the largest fire installation contracts awarded in Hong Kong in the past twenty years. Hong Kong Chubb Fire Safety is part of UTC Fire & Security, which is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

"The breadth of capabilities of Chubb Fire helped us to meet the needs of the customer and provide a comprehensive solution to the challenge of protecting a large cargo facility from fire," said Doug Wright, President of UTC Fire & Security Asia. "Providing the fire protection solution for the new cargo terminal complements our long-standing service relationship with the Chek Lap Kok Airport."

The contract covers the installation of fire detection and alarm systems, a gas suppression and drencher system, a high sensitivity smoke detection system, and a roof and in-rack sprinkler system.  The systems are to be installed in the Cathay Pacific cargo terminal in the Chek Lap Kok Airport, which includes an eight story building and high bay warehouse, with a total area of 260,000 square meters.

The main contractor for the new terminal is Gammon – Hip Hing. The facility is expected to open in 2013.
