With the help of a multitude of partners including Icynene® spray foam insulation and Builders Insulation & Building Products, Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity® is transforming the lives of hundreds of families while also striving to build homes that are as environmentally responsible and energy efficient as possible.
“Not only are we able to offer an affordable home with a zero interest mortgage, the utilities homeowners have to pay are often cut in half. This maximizes the transformational effect on our homeowners and the community,” says Ann Felton Gilliland.
Nowhere is this transformational effect becoming more evident than at Hope Crossing which when completed will be, a neighborhood of some 217 affordable, energy-efficient homes in northeast Oklahoma City. Ann acknowledges that it is relationships with outstanding partners such as Builders Insulation & Building Products and Icynene® that allow families to own a home they never dreamed they would be able to call their own.
Contributing greatly toward LEED points and the overall energy efficiency of the home, ICYNENE LD-C-50® was applied in exterior walls as well as the underside of the roofline and attic gables. Icynene was utilized around all duct work in an unvented, indirectly conditioned attic space. Icynene spray foam insulation is also an air barrier material that saves energy, controls airborne moisture, enhances durability and adds comfort.
Icynene is a proponent of a “whole-house” approach to building design and was proud to work with other habitat partners such as ClimateMaster and Oklahoma Gas and Electric.
Hope Crossing was recognized as a 2009 Sustainable Community of the Year by Developer Magazine and was presented with the 2009 LEED for Homes Outstanding Affordable Project Award by the U.S. Green Building Council. But perhaps the greatest reward is seeing the actual transformation of people and families who now have the opportunity to explore life in ways they never thought previously possible.
