HOCHTIEF is continually acquiring new orders around the world: Subsidiaries of the Group and their joint ventures/partners have signed contracts totaling EUR 631.8 million in the past two weeks alone. These include two bridge projects and the construction of a new hotel in the USA, a business park in Poland and two coalmines in Australia and Mongolia.
The HOCHTIEF subsidiary Flatiron will construct a new bridge over Lake Champlain in the USA. The almost 670 meter long construction is to connect the states of New York and Vermont and will be completed in fall 2011. It is the first order for Flatiron in the state of New York. Flatiron is to construct a bridge connection in North Carolina: the company has acquired an order, together with a partner, to plan and construct an eight-lane bridge over the Yadkin River close to the city of Salisbury. The project will be partly financed by the US government’s stimulus program and is to be completed by fall 2013. In Columbus (Ohio), Turner started pre-construction and construction management for the Columbus Convention Center Hotel together with a partner. When completed in 2012, the building will comprise 532 rooms spread over ten floors. HOCHTIEF Construction has acquired an order in Poland to construct the Futura Park in the vicinity of Krakow. This business park will provide space to small and medium-sized businesses as well as factory outlets over more than 49,000 square meters. Construction is to commence in June 2010 and is set to be completed by August 2011.
The HOCHTIEF subsidiary Leighton received two new orders just recently in the field of contract mining: the Leighton holding Thiess is to mine coal for a further three years at the South Walker Creek Mine in Queensland (Australia). This new contract is already the fourth extension Thiess has received for this project. Leighton Asia is to take over the task of developing and running the Khushuut coalmine in Western Mongolia. After a start-up phase, the company is expected to mine up to six million tons of coal a year at this site. This is already Leighton’s third mining contract in Mongolia.
