Circle at Concord Mills Named as Luxury Multifamily Project of the Year

Circle at Concord Mills, a development by Crescent Resources Multifamily Development Group, was named the luxury multifamily project of the year by the National Association of Home Builders at the National Green Building Conference.

The apartment community's clubhouse was the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified structure in Cabarrus County. Surrounded by 30 acres of preserved woods and wetlands, Circle at Concord Mills is also the first multifamily community in the country to be certified by Audubon International as an Audubon Signature Sanctuary.

"This project is a great example of green building done right, while also done beautifully," said Eric Borsting, chair of the National Association of Home Builders' Green Building Subcommittee. "This should be an example for multifamily builders everywhere when constructing energy-efficient and earth-friendly housing in their own communities."

Circle at Concord Mills is the first multifamily garden community in North Carolina with a LEED-certified facility. A garden community is characterized by substantial open space, landscaped grounds and low-rise buildings.

"Crescent has a long history of creating environmentally sensitive communities that residents are proud to call home, and this award reinforces our commitment to preservation," said Crescent Resources Multifamily Development Group President Todd Farrell.

Circle at Concord Mills – the first smoke-free community in the Charlotte area – features ENERGY STAR appliances, built-in recycling bins, compact fluorescent light fixtures, low-energy windows and paints with low volatile organic compounds. The clubhouse also features native landscaping, water-efficient plumbing and recycled building materials.

"Our goal was to combine sustainable architecture and eco-friendly building techniques with unique programs designed to enrich the lives of our residents," said Brian Natwick, senior development manager for Crescent Resources Multifamily Development Group. "With Circle at Concord Mills, we created an upscale multifamily garden community with an authentic green living experience."

The architect of the 312-unit project was The Preston Partnership, LLC, the civil engineer was Kimley Horn, and Crosland was the general contractor.
