Norbord Inc. (TSX: NBD) today announced that it is now producing Solarbord at its Cordele, Georgia oriented strand board (OSB) mill to meet the rising demand for radiant barrier products in the US South East.
Solarbord is engineered and manufactured using Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) Chain of Custody Certified Wood.
Manufactured using fiber harvested from responsibly managed forests, Solarbord is an ideal structural roof sheathing combining strength and serviceability with an energy saving radiant barrier. Backed by a 25-year limited warranty, Solarbord provides value to builders and ongoing value to homeowners by reflecting up to 97 percent of the sun's radiant energy, lowering attic temperatures and reducing energy consumption. In addition, Solarbord can help builders achieve the rating levels in green building programs such as the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC®) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) and the ANSI® National Green Building Standard® (NGBS®). Solarbord contains no added urea formaldehyde resins and is now available to serve the market with regionally available product.
"Our Solarbord structural radiant barrier represents real value for today's builders and the energy conscious home buyer," said Mike Dawson, Norbord's Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and Logistics. "Solarbord is engineered to offer builders a roof sheathing product that supports their green building initiatives without compromising on performance, strength, or cost. It is another great example of Norbord's commitment to providing builders with solutions to help them grow their businesses."
