Norbord Inc. (TSX: NBD) announced today that its Oriented Strand Board (OSB) products have achieved the certified "Green Approved" status from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Research Center.
By being "Green Approved", builders, designers and specifiers can use Norbord's products to earn points toward certification under the National Green Building Standard(TM). Norbord products that have been "Green Approved" include: Pinnacle, TruFlor, Stabledge, TallWall, Windstorm, Trubord, Rimboard, and Solarbord.
"As today's market drives builders to differentiate themselves, they know that prospective homebuyers want green homes, and Norbord has the right products to help builders achieve their building goals," said Mike Dawson, Norbord's Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Logistics. "We support third-party certification because of the credibility and assurances it brings to the building industry, and we are proud that our products are certified by the NAHB Research Center as "Green Approved". Builders already know they can use Norbord OSB to build better homes; with the NAHB Research Center approval program, it is now easier to see and use our products in their homes to meet their green building objectives."
The NAHB Research Center certified "Green Approved" product seal program was developed to help builders identify products that are eligible for National Green Building Standard certification points. "Green Approved" products must earn a certificate from the NAHB Research Center that identifies the specific sections of the Standard where points for the product are available.
In addition to the National Green Building Standard, Norbord's OSB products also support projects that are seeking points under the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) rating systems. Norbord offers a range of products that are either Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) or Sustainable Forest Initiative (SFI®) Chain of Custody certified, ensuring that wood comes from responsibly managed forests.
