CAT Celebrates The Longest Day Of The Year By Showcasing The Benefits Of Solar Power On SunDay

The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) is teaming up with the Solar Energy Society on June 19th, the Sunday before the Summer Solstice, to celebrate SunDay by demonstrating solar power.

The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year, and besides bringing long lazy evenings and having significance in many historical and religious calendars, is also the day that can provide us with access to the most amount of solar energy.

Visitors to CAT will be able to take an hour-long guided tour of the Centre’s solar displays at 2pm and learn all about solar photovoltaic (PV) panels that generate electricity, solar water heating systems and how passive solar design can be used in buildings to make the best use of natural light and heat.

The guided tour is free to all visitors once normal admission is paid.

There will also be a display in the CAT shop of some of the many solar powered products available, such as our range of Wagner Solar Garden Lights and the Summit Multiband Radio that is designed to work all around the world. The display will also feature books about solar, including a DIY guide to Solar Heating, allowing you to put some of the ideas you learn into practice using readily available materials.
