Turner Construction Company, the nation's leading builder of healthcare facilities, has broken ground on the $93 million Research Building III for Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. The project is scheduled for completion in 2012.
Expected to attract more than $268 million in external support over the next five years, the new 225,000 sq. ft. Research Institute is recognized as one of the fastest growing pediatric research institutes in the U.S.
The new facility will serve as an anchor for the west campus expansion of Nationwide Children's Hospital and occupy the Battelle Center for Mathematical Medicine, the Center for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Research and the Center for Perinatal Research. Turner also successfully completed the Research Building II for Nationwide Children's Hospital in 2003.
Research Building III is being designed and constructed to achieve a LEED certification from the United States Green Building Council. The project is also utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM). Through the utilization of BIM, Turner will provide design visualization, construction coordination, 4D schedule analysis, logistics analysis and progress tracking.
"We are proud to continue our more than 17 year relationship with Nationwide Children's Hospital and to manage the construction of this important research facility to benefit those patients served by the hospital," said Kyle Rooney, Vice President and General Manager of Turner's Columbus operations.
