Fluor Corporation (NYSE:FLR) announced today that it was awarded an engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract by Qatargas Operating Company Limited in Ras Laffan, Qatar. This EPCM contract is part of a project with a total capital expenditure of approximately $1 billion.
Under a previous contract, Fluor completed front-end engineering and design and other services. Fluor booked its portion of the project into backlog in the first quarter of 2010.
“This new EPCM contract is an outgrowth of the successful track record we’ve had on previous projects,” said Peter Oosterveer, president of Fluor’s Energy & Chemicals Group. “Fluor’s global resource footprint and project management expertise on complex projects positions us well to assist Qatargas and RasGas affiliates with their expansion plans.”
The project work for the jetty boil-off gas recovery system is being performed at the LNG storage and loading facilities in Qatar. The project’s objective is to minimize gas flaring at LNG berths, thereby recovering and collecting gas so that it can be reused primarily as fuel gas by the Qatargas and RasGas LNG ventures. The new jetty boil-off project is estimated for completion by the end of 2013 or early 2014.
The project is being performed from Fluor’s Houston and New Delhi, India, operations centers. Fluor previously completed work for the Common Offplot Projects for RasGas and is in the final stages of the Berth 6 Project for Qatargas.
