Big-D Construction recently began construction for the Science Center project at Southern Utah University.
The new $11.5 million building, approximately 50,000 square feet in size, will be constructed to the east of Southern Utah University’s existing Science Center in Cedar City, Utah. The four-story building will include spaces for the departments of biology, nursing and physical science, classrooms, supply areas, labs, a museum and a green house.
The exterior façade of the new building will match the University’s existing Science Center. It has advanced mechanical and electrical systems that will enable the users to experience state-of-the-art technologies in a comfortable educational environment. Numerous sustainable elements, such as energy efficient mechanical systems and lighting controls, as well as recycled materials, have been incorporated into the building’s design. As a result, this building is expected to achieve LEED® Silver Certification.
Major construction activities are scheduled to be completed in April of 2011.
