TRC Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TRR) today announced its selection by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Engineering District 3-0, to provide construction inspection services during the replacement of dual 2000'+ bridges on Interstate 80 (I-80) over the North Branch of the Susquehanna River in Columbia County. Preservation work also will be completed on several other structures within the projects limits. Construction of the project is expected to commence in August 2010 and continue for approximately three years.
“This award validates the confidence that the District has in TRC based on our high-quality performance on a prior inspection services project along I-80,” said Scott Gallaher, P.G., Principal of Construction Engineering and Inspection Services for TRC. “In light of the Federal Government’s recent decision not to allow tolling on I-80, the upgrade has taken on special significance due to its preference as an alternate route across the state. We are pleased to continue TRC’s important role in that effort.”
The project will be monitored using a staff of 12 construction inspectors from TRC. The majority of construction will include the placement of causeways, rock scour protection and other related bridge work. Road work will consist of the placement of Superpave base, binder, and wearing courses; milling of the existing roadway surface; drainage and guide rail upgrades; pavement markings; highway lighting; and other miscellaneous enhancements.
