The National Wood Flooring Association has presented its first Environmental Craftsmanship Award. The award was presented to Precision Floorcrafters in Summerfield, Florida during the NWFA’s Annual convention held in Washington, DC, March 22 - 25, 2010.
The Environmental Craftsmanship Award recognizes professionally installed wood floors that exhibit creative and responsible environmental stewardship in their methods of installation, raw material sourcing, and/or contributions to human well being in the indoor built environment. Judging for the contest was conducted by members of the environmental design community. The contest is open to any professional wood flooring company.
Wood floors entered into the contest were evaluated based on a number of environmental criteria. Precision Floorcrafters used reclaimed and recycled wood from post industrial materials. The floor also met a variety of United States Green Building Council Leaderships in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) criteria including using materials originating within 500 miles of the job site, using a GREENGUARD certified adhesive, and using Forest Stewardship Council Pure, 100% and Reclaimed wood. In addition, the company extended the yield of the product by creating a filler using the waste from the sanding process.
