MonierLifetile® has donated an energy-efficient concrete roof tile system to Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas for its first green LEED prototype home.
Located in Henderson, the prototype house by Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas is projected to achieve Platinum LEED certification, the highest level of green building rating available through the US Green Building Council (USGBC). MonierLifetile donated a complete Energy Efficient Roof System comprising sustainable concrete roof tiles, and incorporating a solar hot water system.
Long recognized as an aesthetically pleasing option, ventilated concrete roof tile offers considerable energy savings compared against traditional asphalt roofing. “We’re delighted that MonierLifetile was able to donate this roof system,” said Scott Donnelly, president of Cooper Roofing, the installer of the roofing system. “The entire community will enjoy the aesthetic aspects of the roof tile, but the lucky family will reap the benefits of its energy efficiency,” he added.
MonierLifetile is the leading manufacturer of concrete roof tile across North America. The company’s innovative Energy Efficient Roof System utilizes an elevated batten system, vented eave risers and ridge guards to reduce energy costs. Studies have shown the system can reduce the amount of heat penetrating the conditioned space by 50% versus direct-to-deck installations, resulting in 22% lower energy consumption.
The groundbreaking home utilizes the innovative Heliodyne Closed Loop Solar water heating system, which collects energy from the sun in order to heat the home’s water supply. The Heliodyne system significantly reduces water heating expenses and is expected to provide energy savings of approximately 200 therms per year in natural gas, as well as CO2 reductions of up to 3,000 pounds every year.
Chris Doelle, vice president sales and marketing for MonierLifetile, explained why it was important to the company to contribute to this particular project. “The future of this country depends on energy-efficient home solutions,” he said. “Everyone deserves the chance to save money on energy bills, especially working families in our communities,” he added.
MonierLifetile hosts an online, interactive energy efficiency calculator enabling consumers to measure the energy savings for a house with ventilated concrete roof tile against traditional asphalt roofing.
