DuPont will showcase the innovative interior design project, “Smart-ologic Corian® Living” at the Milan Design Week 2010 in April.

“Smart-ologic Corian® Living” is a smart, environmentally-sustainable home concept designed by Karim Rashid, one of the world's most prolific and multi-awarded designers, based on the superior design versatility and renowned sensorial qualities of DuPont™ Corian® advanced surfacing material.
All the areas of the home – kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, living room, garden – will be creatively interpreted by Karim and populated by a variety of smart home design solutions where DuPont™ Corian® techno-surface will be the key player and the connecting element.
The exhibition also is showcasing an interpretation by Karim of DuPont™ Energain® panel system for energy consumption reduction, DuPont™ Tyvek® building membrane and the new photovoltaic module marketed in Europe by DuPont Building Innovations.
“The 'Smart-ologic Corian® Living’ project gave me the opportunity to design a modular holistic house concept, a metaphor for how materials, technologies, housing, furnishings and space can work together to evoke an increased sense of experience, positively affect our psyche and bring us a better contemporary life, a better living and also enable us to reduce the environmental footprint of our daily decisions and actions,” Karim said.
According to Jean-Yves Bach, DuPont Building Innovations regional business director for Europe, Middle East and Africa, “The futuristic home living concept that will be shown at the Milan Design Week is a combined showcase of distinctly appealing designs from world-class designer Karim Rashid and DuPont's environmentally sustainable building materials and solutions. We expect the 'Smart-ologic Corian® Living' to generate widespread interest because of its capability to suggest ideas, concepts and solutions that address a variety of technical and environmental challenges in interior design, while offering the genuinely imaginative and inspired creations of a design star like Karim.”
In this project, the world-class design genius of Karim Rashid is complemented by the world-class skills of DuPont in materials design. Exploiting exceptional know-how in materials science, biology, chemistry and manufacturing technologies, DuPont science and technology teams have designed and engineered a futuristic type of DuPont™ Corian® made with environmentally sustainable bio-sourced components and with recycled content and also a new “futuristic concept” of DuPont™ Zodiaq® quartz surface incorporating bio-based ingredients.
