The Scottish construction and demolition industries produce waste at expensive and unsustainable levels that impact directly on bottom-line profits.
Achieving best practice in minimising construction waste in Scotland will be the focus of a one-day seminar at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on 16 June 2005.
Aimed at site and environmental managers from construction companies - along with local authorities, construction, surveying and architectural professionals, academic institutions and housing associations - the seminar will explain how good practice in design considerations, construction methods and site activity can reduce waste and save money.
The event will include interactive workshops to demonstrate the tools and support available for waste reduction, auditing waste minimisation and using recycled and reclaimed materials.
Jointly supported by BRE, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and Envirowise, the seminar will help delegates to reduce waste and costs through presentations on:
- Construction waste - the bigger picture, by Stephen Garvin of BRE
- Legislation on construction waste, by SEPA
- Managing the supply chain - the case for change, by Jamie Pitcairn of Envirowise and Julian Ridal of BRE
- Scotland Waste Minimisation on site: large contractors, by Stephen Thompson of Laing O'Rouke
- Waste Minimisation on site: small and medium contractors, by Brian Menzies of Envirocentre
- Recycling options, by John Forbes of WRAP
- The Scottish Parliament Building - one year on, by Iain Harper of RMJM
and workshops on:
- Site waste minimisation - BRE/SEPA
- Recycling options - WRAP/Thirdwave
- FastTrack practical cost saving advice - Envirowise.
