U.S. Green Building Council Grants LEED Silver Certification for Bay Colony Corporate Center

Bay Colony Corporate Center has received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver designation from the U.S. Green Building Council for the entire four-building campus. UGL Unicco LEED Accredited Professionals provided project management and consulting services to help the property manager, Broadway Real Estate Services, move through the accreditation process.

Beyond what it says about the property’s environmental standing and management practices, the designation is significant since it is one of only a few commercial real estate campuses nationwide that has achieved LEED for Existing Building status for an entire campus. The property consists of three 4-story buildings and one 3-story building totaling 980,000 square feet situated on 58 acres.

LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance certification sets standards, and measures sustainability under several categories such as: sustainable sites, including landscape management and light pollution; water efficiency; energy and atmosphere; materials and resources, including solid waste management and sustainable purchasing; indoor environmental quality; and innovations in operations.

UGL Unicco provided LEED-AP certified professionals who are experienced in helping building owners and managers progress through the LEED certification process. They helped Broadway Real Estate Services benchmark their operations against the directives, select the processes that required modifications, develop Gap analyses, design mitigation programs, implement the changes, and measure and report the results.

UGL Unicco GreenClean®, the company’s industry-leading service that utilizes the most environmentally advanced cleaning products and procedures, enabled Bay Colony to easily qualify for the green cleaning credits available under the certification process.

“This is a major accomplishment that makes a premier, award-winning property even more attractive to our current and prospective tenants,” commented Brian Barriero, Portfolio Manager, Broadway Real Estate Services. “UGL Unicco guided us through the process by helping us translate LEED requirements into action. We relied on their expertise and benefited from their knowledge of LEED procedures, as well as their cleaning and operations expertise.”
