Moynihan Station Construction Project Receives $83 Million Fund from US Department of Transportation

After decades of planning and numerous delays caused by economic ups and downs, the vision of the late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan is finally moving forward. The construction of Moynihan Station will provide the necessary transportation services needed to insure the long term stability of the economy of New York, but will also create immediate jobs vital to the City's and region's economic recovery.

"Because of the US Department of Transportation's $83 million TIGER grant for Moynihan Station New Yorkers are on their way to once again having a grand gateway to the Northeast Communities," said Denise Richardson, Managing Director of the General Contractors Association (GCA) of New York. "This grant provides the key funding piece that will allow phase 1 of the redevelopment of the Farley Post Office into Moynihan Station to move forward.  This is exactly the type of project stimulus dollars are supposed to fund, ready to go, transformational projects that creates lots of jobs."

"When the project is completed Amtrak will gain a world-class flagship building for its busiest and most important station and the LIRR and NJ TRANSIT will benefit from a more efficient and spacious Moynihan Station complex," said Richardson.

According to the GCA, "This stimulus funded project will put hundreds of construction workers to work, improve critically needed rail mobility, and clearly shows that New York has the vision and the perseverance to build transformational projects."
