Cox Enterprises, Inc. today announced plans to build a new 600,000 square foot office complex on its Central Park campus headquarters in Sandy Springs, Ga. to house the technology department of its Cox Communications subsidiary. The department includes the subsidiary’s Atlanta-based Information Technology, Internet and Engineering staff. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2010 with occupancy expected in 2012.
“Our company’s growth necessitates the construction of additional facilities,” said Marybeth Leamer, executive vice president, administration and human resources, Cox Enterprises. “This rings especially true for Cox Communications, which is ramping up its operations to soon launch next-generation wireless voice and Internet services. We’re excited to further develop our Central Park campus to meet their specific needs. ”
CB Richard Ellis, Cox’s strategic real estate planning partner continues to advise Cox on commercial real estate matters. Developing the planned project is Cousins Properties, Inc. Cox also has engaged Bob Hughes, a principal with HGOR, a planning and architecture firm, and Duda/Paine Architects, to consult on land use for the company’s Central Park master plan and construction of new facilities.
The new complex will be built in close proximity to Cox Enterprises’ 16-story headquarters, completed in 2001, and located on a 28.8 acre tract of land known as Central Park, on the east side of Peachtree Dunwoody Road. The campus is located slightly north of I-285 and Hammond Drive in Sandy Springs and Fulton County. Three MARTA stations in the area serve Cox employees with door-to-door shuttle service provided by the company.
Cox Communications’ main facility located nearby at 1400 Lake Hearn Drive in DeKalb County will continue to serve as headquarters for all its non-technology department employees.
