TLCD Architecture, a team of architects, interior designers, and collaborators designing community-oriented projects throughout Northern California, announced today that it has been selected to design the new Student Services Center at Yuba Community College’s Clear Lake Campus.
Voters passed Measure J, a $190 million dollar bond in 2006 to renovate, modernize and expand facilities for the Yuba Community College District, which encompasses Yuba, Sutter, Colusa, Lake, Glenn, Yolo, Placer and Butte counties. TLCD Architecture was selected to design the Clear Lake Student Services Center after participating in a rigorous design competition among four finalist firms.
The new 30,000 square foot facility has a construction budget of $12.5 million and will include student services, a library, learning center, science labs, culinary arts and dining. The current campus, which was originally built in 1975, is composed primarily of modular buildings and has little visibility to the community. The District’s goal for this project is to create a new college center and identity. “This is an extremely exciting opportunity to be involved with a project that will literally change the face of the Clear Lake campus,” says Brian Wright, Associate Principal with TLCD Architecture.
The District will be pursuing LEED Silver certification on the project, which is expected to begin design in February 2010. “The natural setting of the campus will provide great opportunities for sustainable site strategies, including water conservation and preservation of heritage oaks,” states Wright.
