Live Build Of MMC Formwork System At OFFSITE2005

The Insulating Concrete Formwork Association (ICFA) will demonstrate just how quickly their insulated wall system can be constructed, with a daily live build programme planned for visitors to OFFSITE2005 on 6-9 June at BRE Watford.

'Building systems manufacturers all talk about the speed of build, but the ICFA will demonstrate in real time just how speedy our build times can be,' says ICFA Chairman, Christopher Stride. 'Our system also has the benefits of exceeding the requirements of the Building Regulations in regard to thermal and acoustic performance, making it a genuine example of sustainable construction.'

The ICFA wall system is based on hollow EPS insulated blocks that simply lock together to form the walls prior to being filled with concrete. It is suitable for a range of buildings from domestic properties to commercial and public sector buildings. The resilient nature of the materials used in the wall system makes it resistant to flooding, so minimising any repair costs following a flood. This is a strong selling point for the ICFA given the predictions that the incidence of flooding will increase across the UK due to global warming.
