BOMAG will launch new series light tandem rollers (under 1.8 t class) at bauma 2010. The 5th generation is the next-in-line of one of the most successful roller series in the world: the BOMAG BW 80 range. Users, including hire companies and contractors, acround the world have contributed to this outstanding success story, helped by renowned BW80 robustness and reliability. Both these features have been enhanced on the new series. Now, a total of six new models with an operating weight of 1.4 t – 1.6 t will be on show at bauma. All new designs with powerful, field-tested KUBOTA engines.
The new generation is designed for use on medium and minor new construction and repairs work. They feature superb mobility, ideal for use in narrow or confined spaces.
BOMAG offers a clear-sided solution
In addition to its traditional models, the BW 80 AD/BW 90 AD and BW 100 ADM, BOMAG will be showing the BW 100 ACM combination roller with 100 cm wide drum and two clear-sided rollers with drum widths of 90 and100 cm respectively. The clear sided models, BW 90 SC-5 and BW 100 SC-5, have drums offset by 50 mm giving working widths of 95 and 105 cm. These drums are suspended on one side only where they connect to the frame; thus the roller driver can compact flush to walls or kerbs on the left and right, and then steer away from the obstacle without damaging it. This dispenses with additional compaction equipment, such as vibratory plates.
All-round care features
Reliability is in-built on these mobile and flexible rollers. The complete roller, including the articulated joint, is alomost maintenance-free. The range offers high compaction performance, using proven technology such as a powerful and well-proven exciter system, and the efficient, high-performance hydraulic system. The rollers come equipped as standard with a single action vibration switch and the IVC system (Intelligent Vibration Control), which automatically prevents stationary vibration or compaction at excessive speeds. This ensures quality of workmanship.
A vulnerable area on some rollers is the hood which can be damaged in transport or by impact on site. Not here. This new BOMAG roller generation is fitted with high-impact resistant plastic hoods.
Emergencies are well catered for. The roller can be quickly lifted off asphalt by a standard single point suspension system. In seconds, engaged hydraulic brakes can be released and the roller towed away should the engine fail, a feature popular with Hire companies, as is the electric diesel pump (standard equipment) for use if the fuel system should run empty. The central electrics are located in the steering column and can be accessed quickly, e.g. to replace fuses.
Fuel consumption is kept low with economical Kubota engines and the ECO function (most effective on simple compaction work).
Comfort and clarity for the driver
The roomy driver's station features a superbly clear dashboard. The centre piece of the station is the hi-comfort, adjustable driver's seat with armrests and optional double travel lever. Under the seat is storage room for tools and operating manuals. Durable rotary-switch dashboard controls are clearly laid out alongside the latest circular gauge with warning displays, an operating hour meter and a display for diesel tank fill levels. The dashboard and travel lever (which houses additional operating buttons for vibration, the edge cutter and horn) form one unit and allow the roller to be operated intuitively.
A reliable sprinkler system
Alongside compaction performance, a fundamental feature is the sprinkler system. Using a durable diaphragm pump, a water-saving concept, wind-protected nozzles and the automatic sprinkler system, drums remain wet even in windy conditions or on a gradient.
A choice of clever options
A battery disconnector, edge cutter, drum edge lighting, folding ROPS (patented design) and many other options are available to complement the generous standard specification.
