When it comes to sustainability, CertainTeed is "all in." At the 2010 International Builders' Show in Las Vegas, the company (Booth C2026) offers a sneak peek of seven new products that incorporate meaningful sustainable attributes with mainstream appeal.
The two new products headlining the show include EnerGen™, a photovoltaic roofing panel for residential applications, and Sustainable Insulation™, a new fiberglass insulation product meeting the strictest California Indoor Air Quality Requirements that incorporates recycled materials, a bio-based organic binder, and a low impact manufacturing process.
A breakthrough in the roofing industry, the EnerGen system features integrated UNI-SOLAR® thin-film photovoltaic laminates that seamlessly integrate with traditional asphalt roofing shingles and provide utility savings for homeowners. The lightweight and flexible design requires no rooftop penetrations making the system easier for conventional roofing contractors to install while maintaining roof deck integrity. EnerGen offers consumers a seamless solution to their needs by providing roofing protection and aesthetic appeal while creating clean, renewable energy. At the show, EnerGen will be displayed alongside CertainTeed's Landmark Solaris™ solar reflective roofing shingles – a demonstration of how solar reflective and photovoltaic technologies work in tandem to create a high performance, visually appealing roof.
"EnerGen is the first step in what we hope will be a comprehensive portfolio of photovoltaic roofing products for residential and commercial applications," says Guillaume Texier, president of CertainTeed Roofing. "EnerGen will give homeowners the ability to generate solar power for a home without sacrificing aesthetic appeal."
In the continued spirit of environmental responsibility, CertainTeed also introduces Sustainable Insulation. The offering includes fiberglass insulation with a new proprietary, organic binder that is comprised of rapidly renewable bio-based materials and contains no phenol formaldehyde, harsh acrylics or dyes. In conjunction with the new binder technology, the use of readily available renewable resources to manufacture the insulation adds to the product's sustainable appeal. In addition to sand — an abundant natural resource — CertainTeed fiberglass insulation consists of a recycled glass content of 35 percent. In the manufacturing process, CertainTeed has reduced its energy usage over the years, utilizes closed-loop water systems, and embraces a zero-waste commitment.
"As the building industry continues to seek ways to improve energy efficiency and incorporate environmentally friendly products into building designs, CertainTeed's Sustainable Insulation provides a great option for the industry to build more responsibly," says Paul Valle, president of CertainTeed Insulation. "It is yet another example of how CertainTeed is growing its line of innovative product offerings developed with the environment in mind."
In addition to EnerGen and Sustainable Insulation, CertainTeed is showcasing five other new products at IBS:
