Plans for Under Road Ducts for Cabling and Utilities

The UK Department of Transport is drafting a new streetworks bill that could force contractors to lay cable and utilities ducts under busy streets. The move is to reduce the congestion brought about by the digging up of roads to access these facilities.

A steering group has been put together to draft the bill, with the first draft expected to be ready for publishing next month.

The biggest obstacles from both the councils and contractors point of view is who pays for the ducts and who owns them.
