Luleå University of Technology are spearheading research that will reduce energy use at home, which is a challenge for both house owners and consumers. Right now tests is underway including district heating customers in Luleå in the north of Sweden. It's about to find out how energy is used at home, which benefits both the wallet and the environment.
We all know that we in different ways can contribute to a greener society and ultimately it is up to everyone to act and change our behavior, says Arne Gylling, which is project manager at the Center for Distance Spanning Technology (CDT) at Luleå university of technology
He leads a project called Saber, who is also the name of a measuring system which is connected to a building's energy meter and the Internet. Via a webpage house owners and others can see their own energy consumption and learn how to influence and lower it.
Right now testing of measuring equipment are underway, which builds on research from Lulea university of technology. 50 private households with district heating scattered in Luleå, and later further 50 samples in other parts of Sweden, will participate in the project and develop technology for energy conservation. The project, financed by Swedish governmental research finance organisation VINNOVA, where CDT and researcher at LTU Department of Informatics cooperate with the Luleåbased businesses KYABA and Rubico.
- Saber is a project to raise awareness among individuals, while see new business opportunities around ICT and environment for the participating companies, says Arne Gylling.
