Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE Amex:BKR), has been awarded a five-year contract by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Bureau of Public Transportation, for planning and oversight of public transportation projects in Pennsylvania.
The contract will cover bus and rail projects throughout the Commonwealth, including enhanced transit studies, evaluating current transit programs, designing and managing transit facility construction, and other projects that will assist PennDOT in improving bus and rail transportation in Pennsylvania. Baker will provide services that include project management, construction monitoring, engineering services, planning analysis and reporting.
According to PennDOT Deputy Secretary Toby Fauver, “PennDOT is committed to providing quality public transportation as Pennsylvanians look for ways to get out of their cars and use more efficient transportation alternatives.” For the past four years, Baker has worked on a variety of rail/transit assignments with the Bureau of Public Transportation. Baker Project Manager Richard Robyak said, “Baker is extremely excited to assist PennDOT with proper planning and oversight of public transportation projects. Our services will assist the agency in maximizing continued investment, and help to improve transportation in Pennsylvania.”
