Mitsubishi Electric Completes 2,906kW Solar Installation at Coop's Italy Logistic Center

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO:6503) announced today the completion of a 2,906-kilowatt (kW) photovoltaic (PV) installation for Coop's new CNNA-Prato logistic center in Prato, Italy.

Of the 15,710 lead-free solder PV modules used for the 2,906kW system, 15,650 modules (2,895kW) have been installed on the warehouse roof, covering a surface of 21,000 square meters, equivalent to 5 soccer fields. The system will reduce dependence on non-renewable energy, and is expected to generate 3.2 million kWh per year, which will not only completely meet the energy needs of the new logistic center, but will also generate an estimated amount of 500,000 kWh excess electricity that will be transferred to the national distribution network.

The 2,895kW installation on the warehouse roof has become the largest rooftop PV system on a single building in Italy. The warehouse roof was specially designed for PV installations, given that rooftop installations in Italy receive a higher feed-in-tariff rate than those on the ground, and effectively use space. In addition to the 2,895kW rooftop system, an 11kW system of 60 PV modules has been installed on the parking lot grounds.

In January 2010, Mitsubishi Electric will launch its new product lineup of high-output lead-free solder photovoltaic modules with outputs of up to 235W. By utilizing these products and also expanding its product lineup in the future, Mitsubishi Electric intends to further strengthen its overseas PV business.
