ALL Crane & Equipment Rental Provides Boom Truck for Base Jumping Event

For the third time since 2003, ALL Crane & Equipment Rental Corp. of New Albans, West Virginia, a member of the ALL Family of Companies, was chosen to provide a boom truck for the BASE jumping event at the annual Bridge Day celebration at the New River Gorge Bridge in Fayetteville, West Virginia.

A platform extending from the truck bed of the 23.5-ton capacity Terex Model BT4792 provided the launch point for all-day BASE jumps from the 876-ft-tall bridge. The truck’s boom dangled a manbasket over the gorge to hold photographers and videographers recording the events.

In one of the most extreme of extreme sports, trained BASE (Building, Antenna, Span, and Earth) jumpers leap from any or all of these four fixed objects with parachutes designed specifically for rapid deployment. Jumpers must first skydive numerous times from aircraft before attempting to BASE jump. At Bridge Day 2009, thousands of onlookers gathered on the world’s second-longest single-arch bridge to watch 360 jumpers vault off the span.

“We are excited to have participated once again in what is known as ‘the state’s biggest party,’” said Chad Shamblin, General Manager of ALL Crane & Equipment Rental. “We do our part to make sure the jumpers and photographers have the safest possible conditions,” he emphasized.
