The Priory Green Estate, in Kings Cross, London N1, has recently undergone a large regeneration programme, improving internal and external conditions for its residents.
Transferred from Islington Council to the Peabody Trust under the Estate Renewal Challenge Fund (ERCF) programme, the project has utilised tiles from leading ceramics manufacturer H&R Johnson, creating a remarkable fascia for Hugh Cubitt House - the estate’s new security and community centre.
Designed by Architects JCMT Architects, Hugh Cubitt House is the most visually striking example of the £15.2 million regeneration and development scheme carried out across the estate. The building’s frontage utilised H&R Johnson’s Architectural range in Sapphire Blue, creating a bright welcome to all its visitors. The Architectural range includes the 250 x 125mm size glazed vitrified cladding tiles used on the project.
These tiles satisfied the specification requirement for joint modularity to achieve the designed visual effect. Specially produced RES (Round edged on the short edge) tiles for use on all external corners were specified and manufactured specifically for the project. Richard Oppong, Group Leader of Design and Property Services at Peabody Trust commented: “The regeneration of the Priory Green Estate required a fresh and unique style, which H&R Johnson offered with its vibrant Architectural range. “We wanted a striking fascia for Hugh Cubitt House to reflect the very nature of the building but required a durable product that could withstand the changeable British climate.
H&R Johnson met all of our requirements, making them the ideal choice for the Priory Green development.” For further information, please contact H&R Johnson Customer Services on 01782 575575
