Extreme Makeover for Home in Enfield

Contractor invested over $50,000 to develop land for new dream home; TV coverage airs nationwide Sunday, October 11th

As part of the Emmy-award winning ABC television show, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Connecticut-based Spazzarini Construction joined other local builders to create a one-of-a-kind "extreme home" for a deserving local family - the Hills of Suffield. The Hill's story and their new home will be showcased this Sunday, October 11 at 8pm EDT when Extreme Makeover: Home Edition airs nationwide.

The show provides a glimpse into how Spazzarini Construction, Pecoy Signature Homes and others helped rebuild the small, fire-damaged and deteriorating home of the 13-member Hill family, while working under extreme weather conditions and within a seven day timeframe.

Spazzarini Construction excavated the land for the new home, installed sewer and water lines, created drainage around the home's foundation, prepped the house for new electrical and plumbing systems and graded the yard, driveway and patio - creating the foundational elements that enabled the builders to build. They also brought in extra equipment and a round-the-clock mechanic to help combat the effects of heavy rain which turned the ground to mud, clogging up machinery (Spazzarini even built a roadway around the job site to help builders bring in their equipment and start work). In total, Spazzarini volunteered dozens of hours of manpower and strategic focus while doubling their estimated budget for materials and equipment to ensure the job was done right.

"The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition project was one of the most challenging and rewarding jobs we've ever worked on," said Edward Spazzarini, President, Spazzarini Construction. "A custom home normally takes four to six months to complete, but ABC brought everyone together to complete the task in just one week. We all shared best practices and pushed the limits of what's possible. It was truly amazing to see companies of all sizes volunteer their time and talents, in a very tight economy, to help our neighbors the Hills -- and we were honored to participate."

As part of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition's seventh season, this project was one of the first to highlight the show's new "get on the bus" theme - inspiring communities to join the extreme team in making a difference all across the country. In addition to transforming the lives of hundreds of families and individuals, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has inspired millions of people in this country and beyond. The show has been aired in 69 countries, translated into 58 languages and viewed by a billion people worldwide.
