Marley Dry Fix

Changes in density and style of housing, as a result of planning guidelines such as Planning Policy Guidance Note 3, Housing (PPG3), has resulted in taller buildings and in turn steeper roof pitches. In helping developers meet the requirements set out by the Government, Marley Roofing has introduced an innovative steep pitch ventilated dry ridge system specifically for roof pitches of 45° and over.

Marley’s groundbreaking ventilated steep pitch dry ridge system offers a simple, aesthetically pleasing and effective means of providing continuous ventilation along the length of the ridge for pitches of 45° - 55°. Marley’s unique steep pitch ventilated dry ridge further enhances the already popular dry fix roof systems Marley has developed, providing high performance, easy-to-fix, maintenance free alternatives to traditional mortar bedding. Specified as the most effective protection for roofs, dry - or mortarless – pitched roofing is becoming the preferred method for speed and ease of installation, offering a range of benefits over wet mortared roofs, which have proved to be more vulnerable and unreliable in high wind loads.

When correctly installed, Marley’s steep pitch ventilated dry ridge and other dry fix roof systems are designed to satisfy the requirements of BS 5534 ‘Code of practice for slating and tiling (including shingles)’, with respect to the mechanical fixing of roof fittings to resist wind uplift and the provision of continuous ventilation at the ridge apex, as recommended in BS 5250 ‘Code of practice for control of condensation in buildings’. Furthermore, Marley’s dry fix roof systems provide complete weathertight and low maintenance roofing applications, complying with PPG3 guidelines. John Dodd, General Technical Manager for Marley Roofing, commented: “Changes in density and a new generation of housing, as a result of PPG3, have seen roofing manufacturers develop innovative products and systems for the roofscape. Marley is no exception, providing innovative solutions for steeper pitches with the introduction of the steep pitch ventilated dry ridge, which is set to make roofing processes easier and safer and help developers achieve the standards set out by PPG3.”
