Latin American event in 2010 to Feature Chemical Innovations

The inaugural Latin American chemical educational and networking event August 23-24 in Sao Paulo, Brazil

Informex, the leading meeting place for buyers and sellers of high-value chemistry for a broad range of applications, today announced the launch of its Latin American event, which will be comprised of chemical solutions and innovations from all over the world at a single location.

This educational and networking event scheduled for August 23-24, 2010 in Sao Paulo's Amcham Convention Center will include an international congress and tabletop exhibition -- uniting more than 1500 professionals, including exhibitors, visitors and congress participants.

With Latin America experiencing its longest period of sustained growth in more than a generation, the industrial/specialty chemical products sector continues to see significant growth despite the economic downturn. In Brazil alone, the chemical industry's net sales in 2008 exceeded US$120 billion: 50% of which represented industrial chemicals, 14% in pharmaceutical products, with remaining segments (paints, coatings, cosmetics, perfumes, crops/fertilizers) totaling 36%.

These specialty sectors are the focus of Informex Latin America, with select segments hosting pavilions to further highlight particular products, ingredients and raw materials; sectors include:

Agrochemicals - with a special "Crop Production" pavilion

Industrial Chemicals - adhesives, resins, electronics, fuels, lubricants, paints, coatings, photographic, film, plastics, polymers, textiles and water treatment

Consumer Chemicals - cosmetics, personal care, flavors, fragrances, food, beverage, soaps and detergents

In addition to Sao Paulo being the business capital of Latin America with more than 17 million inhabitants and a modern infrastructure, there were several factors that lead Informex management to conclude that Brazil should be the chosen venue, including:

  • Boasting one of the fastest growing economies in the world, Brazil is rebounding from the global economic downturn along with China and India.
  • According to the International Monetary Fund, Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world by both population and area has the eighth highest gross domestic product on a purchasing power parity basis.
  • Brazil is the largest producer of ethanol in the world, with sugarcane as its source.
  • The Brazilian Institute of Geography & Statistics (IBGE) estimates that there are approximately 5, 500 chemical companies operating in the country representing 1,096 chemical industries; 604 are located in the state of Sao Paulo.

"Informex will bring together purchasers and producers of fine, specialty and custom chemicals and technologies in a comfortable networking environment. Launching in Latin America provides opportunity for suppliers to showcase their products and solutions in a growing region and be an invaluable opportunity to meet new clients," said Jennifer Jessup, Business Director, UBM. "Our goal is to have this be the essential event for the specialty chemical industry in Brazil."
