Research and Markets has announced the addition of the "Exterior Doors & Windows in Greece 2009" report to their offering.
This study explores the exterior doors and windows sector and especially the following categories: aluminum, synthetic and wooden doors and windows. The sector's direction is directly linked with the development of the public and private building activity, involving both the construction of new buildings and the renovation of older ones.
The key points are summarized regarding the demand, the supply, the Greek and the European market of exterior doors and windows.
The rate of change in the exterior doors & windows market slowed drastically over the 3-year period 2005-2007, as revealed by the sector study carried out by the ICAP Group Department of Economic Research. In recent years, the consumption of exterior doors and windows has enjoyed relatively high growth rates due to the increase of the building activity and of renovations, in private as well as in public buildings. The hotel sector (which constructed new units and renovated older ones mainly because of the Athens Olympic Games) contributed to this activity to a great extent. In 2007, the exterior door and windows market continued to grow. However, there is a great number of manufacturers operating in the sector of exterior doors and windows, the majority of which are small and medium-sized. Due to the particularity of the product under assessment and the specialized demands on behalf of clients - that do not allow for the complete standardization and as a result for mass production-, the sector is fragmented. In addition, the market's characteristics in terms of property ownership in Greece (dominated by small owners) and the particular high percentage of self-ownership, creates a situation that favors the fragmentation of demand.
Most sector companies are manufacturing ones, whereas imports are carried out to a limited extent. The majority of companies involved in the fabrication of synthetic doors and windows are located in Northern Greece since the demand for these products is higher in this region due to the weather conditions.
The key strength of the assessed companies is that they make products that do not actually have any substitutes. Exterior doors and windows made from aluminum have another advantage: an organized and expanded domestic industry that manufactures and processes aluminum and is able to supply the necessary raw material (aluminum profiles).
