Green Building Innovations Shown Off at INSITE09

INSITE09 Constructing the Future opens it doors today to thousands of visitors who will be the first to see the latest phase of sustainable development on the BRE Innovation Park which includes

• The newly refurbished Willmott Dixon Community Healthcare Campus giving a glimpse of how future healthcare will be delivered
• The timber and hemp Code Level 4 Renewable house which demonstrates that sustainability and affordability can be compatible
• PRP's competition-winning sustainable landscape scheme which integrates the 2007 -2008 Park buildings with the new developments
• The Prince's Foundation Natural House and the Creo Apartment Building both under construction and aiming to demonstrate alternative approaches to cracking the Code

Among the guests will be Richard Howitt MEP for the East of England who will officially open the event which also includes a conference and outdoor and indoor exhibitions featuring:

• An Energy Zone, sponsored by EDF Energy, who are demonstrating a range of smart meters and a ‘Carbon Viewer' for community smart metering
• DuPont's latest built environment innovations including Energain, Tyvek and Corian on show in several Park buildings and the landscape scheme
• Pilkington' s latest sustainable windows range ‘energiKare'
• The FutureForm recycled steel hotel pod
• A sustainable foundation system from Roger Bullivant

Build partners from 2006-2008 along with the Energy Saving Trust will reveal results from their latest research and their new real world developments including

• Energy Saving Trust's Building in the Dark survey which highlights the green skills gap among UK tradespeople
• The Stewart Milne Sigma Post Occupancy Study based on a real family living in their Code Level 5 -designed home
• Lessons Learned from the Kingspan Lighthouse and how these have influenced its latest product the Kingspan Vantage
• Monitoring of the Hanson Eco-house and the benefits of thermal mass
• Osborne and their recent Code 5 development success
• The Barratt Green House and Hanham Hall
• EcoTech‘s Organics demonstration house

BRE will also be launching the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) funded BRE Enterprise Hub - a new scheme designed to support regional SMEs in the built environment the new BRE Innovation Park membership scheme.

Speaking at the opening ceremony today CEO of BRE Dr Peter Bonfield said ‘With new partners investing in new demonstration projects on the Innovation Park for INSITE09, and a fantastic set of sponsors and exhibitors we are encouraged by the continued commitment of the industry to explore new options for a ‘low impact' built environment.'
