New Roofline Design Ideas Supported by Expanded Steel Joist Specifications

New Millennium Building Systems announces the completion of a near two-year project to expand industry-standard steel joist engineering specifications, making unique roofline designs more practical and economical to design.

The project has culminated in the publication of a new Special Profile Joist Catalog that includes illustrations, charts and guidelines to support the expanded specification tables representing over 57,000 design possibilities.

The expanded engineering specifications meet the standards set by the Steel Joist Institute (SJI) and support New Millennium's SPJ-1 Series of joists.

"With this catalog, architects, engineers, owners and fabricators can understand the broad range of profiles New Millennium is prepared to furnish," said Rivers Claytor, a lead engineer on the development project. "It reflects the expertise New Millennium brings as a collaborative design partner on the steel joist and deck package."

A full range of engineering considerations are addressed to facilitate roofline innovation using steel joists, including standard joist products depth, span, design load, the resulting weight and the additional dimension of pitch or curve for SP-Series joists.

The catalog publishes the weights for loads from 300 plf to 800 plf, and the full table will eventually be published on the New Millennium website. Related considerations such as shipping, handling and erection guidance are also addressed within the new catalog.

Architects, engineers and other industry professionals interested in obtaining a free copy of the catalog should visit www.newmill.com/catalog.
