PPG Industries (NYSE: PPG) has launched a Web-based tool that allows architects to access Building Information Modeling (BIM) files for its architectural glass products, Duranar coatings, Pittsburgh Paints and Porter Paints. The PPG Ideascapes Web site enables architects to download Revit Architecture files so they can incorporate PPG products into their digital designs. The files may also be used with Google SketchUp Viewer, another popular building modeling software.
The BIM modules are part of PPG's on-going effort to give architects and contractors a robust collection of Web-based tools that allow them to streamline the design, documentation and construction of environmentally-sustainable buildings.
Another recent addition is the Green Building Resource Center, an interactive illustration that highlights sustainable PPG products for building envelopes and interiors. The Web site, http://ppgideascapes.com/greenbuilding, contains a LEED support center to assist with the documentation of PPG glass, coatings and paint for LEED credit.
