Rebuilding Together's Gulf Coast Operations is closely monitoring the situation in Southern Louisiana and the Gulf region as Hurricane Gustav approaches.
"Our affiliates in the Gulf Coast are in our minds and prayers as they brace themselves for yet another major hurricane," said Gary A. Officer, President & CEO of Rebuilding Together. "We have a long-term commitment to the Gulf. As we continue serving the needs of low-income homeowners rebuilding from Rita and Katrina, we will stand with our affiliates to face the impact of Gustav."
Rebuilding Together's Gulf Coast Operations launched the Rebuild 1000 campaign in 2005 in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. To date that pledge to rebuild 1000 homes has mobilized over 10,000 volunteers from Rebuilding Together affiliates nationwide. The operation has provided free renovations and critical repairs to the homes of low-income Gulf residents who could not manage on government assistance and insurance alone. Work completed to date has an estimated market value of $30 million.
Rebuilding Together has ongoing needs for both skilled and unskilled volunteers along with funding support to fulfill the goals of its Gulf Coast Operations unit. Parties interested in more information are asked to visit http://www.rebuildingtogether.org.
Rebuilding Together is the nation's largest nonprofit organization working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize neighborhoods by providing home repair and renovation services free of charge to those in need.
