American Aquascapes has provided the Triangle and the Triad with custom-designed water features for 11 years. Now, the company is proud to announce its implementation of new RainBank Systems for water landscaping without worry.
The RainBank System designed by Aquascape captures and filters rainwater, which it then stores for use in the feature. The system uses no chemicals, instead relying upon a proprietary biological filter and a pump to provide naturally clean and healthy water without putting a strain on municipal water supplies.
American Aquascapes' water features are incredibly eco-friendly, as they provide a miniature aquatic ecosystem in the backyard, especially valuable in this time of drought. These mini-marshes offer food and shelter to birds, insects and amphibians, helping to protect the biodiversity of North Carolina.
"We want to work with Mother Nature, not against her," says Michael Wheeley of American Aquascapes. "A healthy, low-maintenance ecosystem is our goal. By using the RainBank system, green-conscious consumers can have a beautiful backyard water feature without guilt over wasted water."
Water landscaping also helps to lower energy bills by tempering heat. According to the EPA, even a small pond can help cut costs, especially if it takes the place of blacktop. A water feature in place of lawn reduces water bills, provides a native habitat and reduces maintenance time drastically.
Wheeley and his team are even considering their own grassroots movement to get ecologically sound backyard water features certified as aquatic ecosystems by the state. "We want to get as many people as possible involved in changing our local environment," he says.
It looks like the "greenest" yard may not be quite so green at all.
