Georgia-Pacific Building Products Showcases Industry Leading Building Materials and Innovative Solutions at the 2008 International Builders' Show

Georgia-Pacific Building Products continues to strive for innovation in construction, featuring a number of industry-firsts at the 2008 International Builders' Show. Among them are next generation exterior wall sheathing, an open web I-joist and new extended exposure warranties for two paperless gypsum building materials that are superior to the warranties of any other manufacturer.

Wood Products: Weather-Resistant Wall Sheathing

Georgia-Pacific Wood Products reinvents the "shell" of the home with the introduction of its patent-pending Nautilus(TM) wall sheathing. Nautilus wall sheathing is a first-in-class OSB panel with a pre-applied weather-resistant barrier that eliminates the need for separate building wrap installation. The weather-resistant barrier helps prevent moisture intrusion, and when seams are sealed with Nautilus 3" wide seam tape, the walls are better protected against air leaks, which helps improve energy efficiency.

"Time is valuable on the construction site and mitigating weather-related problems is a must for any new structure today," said Pat Lynch, vice president of sales for Georgia-Pacific Wood Products. "The new Nautilus wall sheathing allows the building community to build faster and achieve the protection on the jobsite they desire."

New Prefabricated Wood I Beam

On display at the Georgia-Pacific booth (W-3159), the new XJ 85(TM) Wood I Beam(TM) joist is the only prefabricated I-joist of its kind, with strategically placed openings through which builders can easily install plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems. The XJ 85 joists are capable of supporting roof loads over long spans such as large open spaces and high ceilings. In addition they resist shrinking, twisting and warping.

Additional key product benefits include:

  • Consistent quality results in fewer callbacks and lower installed cost;
  • No metal plate connectors makes it a safer product; and
  • Better price predictability allows builders to forecast long-term projects and also consistent pricing across multiple projects.

New Extended Exposure Warranties

Georgia-Pacific Gypsum LLC announces new weather exposure limited warranties for several of its leading paperless gypsum panels. The flagship DensGlass Gold(R) exterior sheathing and DensGlass Ultra Shaftliner(R) now feature 12-month weather exposure limited warranties and DensArmor Plus(R) interior drywall now offers a six-month weather exposure limited warranty.

These paperless gypsum panels are designed as a replacement for paper-faced panels in commercial and residential exteriors and interiors. They have fiberglass mats that provide superior moisture- and mold-resistance when compared to traditional paper-faced panels.

"These new exposure warranties are another testament to Georgia-Pacific's ongoing commitment to the building and construction industry, as well as our confidence in our products' strong performance," said Leo Bissonnette, general manager for Georgia-Pacific Gypsum. "The proven moisture- and mold-resistant fiberglass mat technology found in our paperless gypsum panels is a superior choice to ensure the long-term sustainability of the structure."

New GREENGUARD Microbial-Resistance Listing

DensArmor Plus(R) drywall, DensArmor Plus Abuse Guard(R) drywall, DensShield tile backer, and DensGlass Ultra Shaftliner are now listed as GREENGUARD microbial-resistant products by GREENGUARD Environmental Institute, a leading third-party organization.

This listing means that the Georgia-Pacific Gypsum paperless panel products resist mold growth and are in compliance with ASTM Standard D6329- 98. This is one of the most rigorous testing standards set by ASTM International, which develops testing guidelines and procedures for building materials, products, systems, and services.

"This new GREENGUARD listing and current certifications further confirm that our paperless gypsum panels lead to better indoor air quality," said Leo Bissonnette, general manager for Georgia-Pacific Gypsum. "The paperless gypsum panels' proven ability to reduce the risk of mold makes them perfect for moisture-prone basements, bathrooms and kitchens."
